Iran's Supreme Leader Tells Parliament to Halt Impeachments

Ian's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has told the hardline parliament not to impeach any more members of the reformist government. The student news agency ISNA today cited Khamenei's letter to the speaker of parliament Gholamali Haddad-adel that called on legislators to cancel their decision to question Education Minister Morteza Haji over alleged msmanagement. Parliament already dismissed Transportation Minister Ahmad Khorram in October after accusing him of mismanaging his department. Khamenei was quoted as saying in the letter "now that the government is in the last months of its crucial mission, impeaching ministers is of no benefit for the country." Reformists have blamed the parliament for blocking government planning and ignoring national interests for ideological reasons. Reformist President Mohammad Khatami is due to step down from office in June when the country holds presidential elections.
