President George W. Bush has picked outspoken arms control expert John Bolton, to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice made the announcement in Washington today she said:
“Te president and I have asked John (Bolton) to do this work because he knows how to get things done. He is a tough-minded diplomat. He has a strong record of success and he has a proven track record of effective multilateralism."
Bolton, currently an undersecretary of state, is a lawyer whose comments have irked leaders in North Korea and China.
In the past, Bolton criticized the United Nations as being ineffective.
The nomination needs approval by the U.S. Senate.
