US Secretary of State Defends Concerns about Iran's Nuclear Ambitions

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says evidence about Iran's nuclear program justifies international concerns about Tehran's ambitions. Rice was responding to an article in The New York Times newspaper on 9th March. The article said a U.S. panel assessing American intelligence found the information was insufficient to firmly conclude that Iran was seeking to build nuclear weapons. U.S. President George W. Bush's administration has accused Iran of trying to build nuclear weapons, charges Iran steadfastly denies. Bush said today that during a recent trip to Europe, leaders also expressed concerns about Iran's alleged desire to obtain the weapons. The panel was set up by Bush last year to assess the quality of U.S. intelligence on nuclear, chemical and biological weapons proliferation.
