Rights Groups Want Iran to Release Political Prisoners

International human rights groups today called on Iran to release all of its political prisoners. Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, the International Federation for Human Rights and Reporters wthout Borders listed several people they say are being held unjustly in the Islamic republic. The groups, also joined by Iranian Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi, released a statement saying Iran's judiciary has over-ruled requests from prison authorities to give some detainees medical treatment. The statement comes two days before Iran is due to have a presidential election.
