Iran Urges EU to Accept Resumption of Some Nuclear Work

Iran has called on the European Union to agree to Tehran resuming some sensitive nuclear work. A spokesman for Iran's Supreme National Security Council said the EU must accept that Iran be allowed to resume some uranium enrichment, a key process in making nuclear fuel. The spokesman, Ali Agha Mohammadi, said this should be part of an EU proposal due to be submitted by August 1, otherwise Iran will reject it. Diplomats from Britain, Germany and France have been in talks with Tehran to try to resolve the crisis over Iran's nuclear program. They have asked Iran to surrender its fuel-making program in return for economic incentives. Iran has denied U.S. accusations that it is enriching uranium in order to build nuclear weapons.
