The 1999 police attack on Tehran university dorms, which sparkled a nationwide student uprising was a conspiracy hatched by the same people who were cleared by court from any wrongdoing, head of the nationalist Iran Nation (Mellat-e Iran) party Khosrow Seif tells Radio Farda’s Cologne correspondent Shahram Mirian. Fortunately, students resisted that conspiracy, he adds. Many of the students who were subjects of those attacks were given long jail sentences, Seif says in an advance of the fifth anniversary of the July 9 uprising, after which Seif was arrested, along with many other nationalist leaders on charges of fomenting the uprising. In Iran Nation party, Seif succeeds slain leaders Dariush and Parvaneh Forouhar, victims of the 1997 serial murders of dissidents by the Intelligence ministry agents.
