HUMAN RIGHTS: Son of Slain Journalist Criticizes Canada's Inaction

July 12, 2004 - In an interview with Toronto Star, Stephan Hachemi Montreal-based son of slain Canadian-Iranian photojournalist Zahra Kazemi, criticized the Canadian government for not pursuing his mother’s case, a year after she died in custody at the Evin prison. "Canada’s inaction in this case has caused belittling of Canadians," he said. “What we want is for the government of Canada to help us get justice,” he said. “The man who is soon to be tried for manslaughter is an scapegoat while others were involved in my mother’s murder and this court is a show court,” Estephan added. The participants in a memorial service for Zahra Kazemi in Montreal asked Canada and other nations not to ignore the facts in this case.
