HUMAN RIGHTS: Majles Conservative Blast Critics of Judiciary’s Handling of Kazemi’s Murder Trial

July 19, 2004 - Majles speakers and government have nothing to testify in Canadian photojournalist Zahra Kazemi’s death in custody trial, Deputy speaker of the Majles complaints committee Teymoour Ali-Askari said, refuting Nobel Prize Laureate Shirin Ebadi and other victim family’s lawyers, who moved the court to summon several government officials and two Majles MPs to testify in the trial of an intelligence ministry agent accused of killing Kazemi during interrogation. He urged Ebadi and other lawyers to pursuit the death of hemophiliac patients, instead of Kazemi’s, “who was just one person.” Speaker of the Majles complaints committee Mohammad-Reza Faker criticized the judge for having allowed the Canadian and Dutch ambassadors to attend the trial.
