July 27, 2004 - The Islamic judiciary’s supreme court overturned on Tuesday the death sentence against Afsaneh Norouzi, a 33 year woman charged with the 1997 murder of the head of Kish island’s police intelligence unit, her lawyer abdolsamad Khorramshahi announced. Women’s rights advocates said the court had disregarded the defendants claim that the killing was in self defense against a rape attempt.
