NUCLEAR: South Africa May Supply Iran with Uranium, Israeli Daily Says

August 18, 2004 - In a memorandum of understanding signed on Tuesday in Tehran by South African defense minister Mosiuoa Lekota and the Islamic Republic defense minister Reza Shamkhani, South Africa agreed to provide Iran with uranium, Israeli daily Haaretz reports. The details of the memorandum were not announced, but the Islamic government’s news sources quoted the visiting South African defense minister saying that seeking peaceful nuclear technology was a legitimate right of Iran. Brigadier General Yossi Kuperwasser, the head of Military Intelligence's research department, told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Tuesday that Iran is expected to have full nuclear ability by early 2007, according to Haaretz.
