Iran’s National Security Council Chief: A New Chapter in Iran-EU Relation

Following the meeting with European foreign ministers in Brussels on Monday, Hassan Rohani, Iran’s National Security chief and the chief negotiator with EU on Iran’s nuclear program, said a new chapter in relations with Europe has begun, adding that it is not only with the EU three; Britain, France and Germany but with all European countries. Jack Straw, the British Foreign Secretary, in a statement in Brussels on 13th December said: “At our meeting here today, we have launched the process of negotiating long-term arrangements.” The following are other excerpts from Straw’s statement: ”The Paris agreement provides us with a stable platform on which to do so. We have agreed to set up three working parties to take the process forward.” ”One of the purposes of this negotiation is to provide objective guarantees that Iran's nuclear program can be used only for peaceful purposes.” ”All of us here today share a determination to see progress. Some of the issues are, of course, difficult. But we are all committed to a successful outcome to the process which we began together in Tehran 14 months ago.”
