(Bahman Bastani) <b>Relatives of Gorgan Jail Fire Victims Sue Prison Chiefs</b> * The judiciary detained the head of Gorgan&apos;s Amir-Abad jail and his deputy for refusing to post 2.250 billion rials in bail. The two are charged with mismanagement and negligence for the fire that killed 27 prisoners last month. Golestan province deputy judiciary chief said the two could be sentenced to three years in jail and paying blood money to the victims&apos; families, according to Islamic law. Gorgan-based independent journalist Nasser Mohimani tells <b>Radio Farda</b> that the victims&apos; families do not have the resources to pursue their charges against the prison management. He adds that that prison officials have not yet announced the cause of the fire. (Mahmonir Rahimi) <b>Khatami and Mirdamadi Criticize Judiciary&apos;s Intelligence Unit</b> * In a speech to the intelligence ministry managers, President Mohammad Khatami criticized the judiciary for creating an intelligence unit that parallels the duties of the intelligence ministry. (Alireza Taheri) * Tehran MP Mohsen Mirdamadi said in an interview published today that the judiciary put on trial members of the nationalist-religious coalition, members of the Freedom Movement of Iran, directors of two opinion survey agencies and several others on subversion and spying charges, based on the information produced by its own intelligence unit, which the intelligence ministry did not verify. He also criticized the judiciary&apos;s ban on his newspaper <i>Nowruz</i>, which was about to resume operations tomorrow at the end of a previous six-month ban. (Amir-Mosaddegh Katouzian) <b>Secret Agents Arrest Children&apos;s Writer Siamak Taheri</b> * Men identifying themselves as secret police agents arrested children&apos;s books writer and translator Siamak Taheri nine days ago. His father tells <b>Radio Farda</b> that the family&apos;s efforts to locate him have been unfruitful. He adds that the agents told his son that he was being investigated for his friendship with writer and Tolstoy translator Alireza Jabbari, who was arrested nearly a month ago. (Shireen Famili) <b>Police Prevent Lawyers to Accompany their Convicted Colleagues to Jail</b> * Police officers prevented three human rights lawyers from accompanying their convicted colleagues Abdolfatah Soltani and Mohammad-Ali Dadkhah on their way to jail. Lawyer Mohammad Seifzadeh, who along with the convicted lawyers and several other human rights lawyers founded the Center for Defense of the Human Rights Defenders, tells <b>Radio Farda</b> that it is common for any person going to jail to have a few of his friends and relatives with him on his way to prison and the lawyers&apos; action cannot be considered a demonstration. He adds that two of the accompanying lawyers were Soltani&apos;s own defense attorneys. (Mahmonir Rahimi) * In an interview with <b>Radio Farda</b>, Abdolkarim Lahiji, Paris-based director of the society for defense of human rights in Iran condemned the jailing of the two lawyers who were tried for complaining against the torture and mistreatment of their clients in jail. (Amir-Mosaddegh Katouzian) . يك هفته پس از انحلال شوراي شهر تهران توسط هيات رفع اختلاف ميان شهرداري و شوراي شهر، وزارت كشور محمد حسن ملك مدني، شهردار تهران را بركنار كرد. وزارت كشور اعلام كرد كه انحلال شوراي شهر مورد تمايل آن نبود و تلاش هاي تنها نماينده اين وزارتخانه براي جلوگيري از انحلال شوراي شهر تهران به جائي نرسيد. معاون وزارت كشور انحلال شوراي شهر تهران، چهل روز پيش از انتخابات شوراهاي محلي را ضربه اي به دولت خاتمي توصيف كرد. يك عضوشوراي شهر تهران در واكنش به انحلال اين شورا از وزارت كشور خواست شهردار تهران را بركنار كند. محمدحسن مقيمي، معاون فني وزارت كشور به سرپرستي شهرداري تهران منصوب شد.
