EU's Solana Says Attack On Iran Would Be Mistake

The European Union's foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, says he believes a military attack on Iran's nuclear facilities would be a mistake. In an interview due to be broadcast today on British television (ITV), Solana said he believes that at the moment, military action against Iran is "very difficult to conceive." Solana said he does think the United States has, at this point in time, the wish nor the capability to launch a military action against Iran. The European Union has been pushing diplomatic action to resolve the situation over Iran's nuclear development. U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Friday that an attack on Iran was "simply not on the agenda at this point." The U.S. has accused Iran of using its civilian nuclear power program to secretly develop atomic weapons. Iran denies the charge.
