Khatami Condemns Iraq War, Regrets Sept. 11 Attacks
Iranian President Mohammad Khatami today,5th April, condemned the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and expressed sadness over the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States.
Khatami was speaking at a U.N. conference on how to use dialogue to bring people closer together. He condemned the war in Iraq, saying that "war and terror are from the same root." He also said the terrorist attacks in the United States in 2001 represent "terror in its most horrendous form."
The conference in Paris is being organized by the U.N.'s educational, cultural, and scientific organization, known as UNESCO.
Iran has been behind UNESCO's effort to promote a dialogue among civilizations, cultures and peoples. The U.N. Year of Dialogue Among Civilizations was launched in 2001.
