The speaker of Belgium's parliament cancelled a lunch today with his visiting Iranian counterpart because the Iranian delegation insisted that no alcohol be served.
A parliamentary spokesman today said the lunch was called off because Belgian officials did not want to bow to "outside rules" and believed the guests should respect local customs.
Iranian parliament speaker Gholam Ali Hadad Adel met his Belgian hosts outside dining hours.
