ENERGY: Expert Doubts Oil Minister’s Claim on Oil Production Capability

The Islamic government has shown that it is incapable of attracting foreign investment, technology and know-how to Iran’s oil industry, London-based oil journalist Nasir Shirkhani tells Radio Farda’s London correspondent Shahran Tabari. Big oil companies, fearing US sanctions, have shown no interest in making major investments in Iran, he adds. For those reasons, despite the oil minister’s claims, Iran cannot become the world’s second most powerful oil producer. Last week, oil minister Bijan Namdar-Zangeneh said, with the addition of 17 billion barrels of oil in the newly found rich oil field Yadavaran, Iran is poised to become the world’s second producer of oil, after Saudi Arabia.
