REFUGEES: Interior Ministry Urges Iranian Women to Apply for Permits before Marrying Foreign Nationals

Director of foreign nationals’ affairs at the interior ministry said Iranian families whose daughters plan to marry foreign nationals should not forget to obtain marriage licenses. Since marriages between Iranian women and foreign nationals, including Afghan and Iraqi refugees, were not being officially registered, the children of Iranian wives of Afghans could not receive birth certificates in either country and were refused admission in schools for lack of proper documentation. “It appears that the government has decided to resolve the problem of these marriages,” Mashad-based independent journalist Mohammad-Sadeq Javadi-Hesar tells Radio Farda’s broadcaster Farin Asemi.
