TIES: National Security Council Official Finds Resumption of US-Iran Relations “Impossible”

July 31, 2004 - “There is no suitable grounds for discussing” resumption of US-Iran relations,” supreme national security council’s foreign relations committee's secretary Hossein Mousavian said on Saturday in an interview with UAE newspaper al-Khalij. “If the US changes its policy towards the Islamic Republic, then we can study the possibility of resumption of relations,” he added. He denied charges that the Islamic government was interfering in Iraq’s domestic affairs and said “Iraq’s security and stability is very important to Iran.” He also denied charges that the Islamic government was cooperating with al-Qaeda. “More than 500 al-Qaeda members are under arrest,” he added.
