REGION: Iran to Build Hydro-Electric Power Stations in Tajikistan

An energy ministry delegation Friday signed an agreement in Dushanbe to build five small hydro-electric power stations in Tajikistan. The Islamic development bank has provided a $9 million loan to Tajikistan for the project, head of the policy department of the Tajik energy ministry Rashid Gulov said, according to the official news agency IRNA. The Islamic government’s energy minister Habibullah Bitaraf is to visit to the Tajik capital July 31-August 3. Bitaraf is to meet Tajik president Emomali Rakhmonov, as well as that country’s energy minister Dzhurabek Nurmakhmadov to discuss subsequent bilateral energy and water-use cooperation. The permanent Iranian-Tajik committee for water-use cooperation will hold its first session.
