ENERGY: OPEC Fears Rise in Oil Prices
August 16, 2004 - Oil producing countries, including Iran and other OPEC members may be temporarily enjoying a windfall, as prices of crude oil and oil futures rise in world markets. Oil traded above $46 per barrel on New York Mercantile market. But producers fear that higher oil prices would drive down the demand, increase competition and push energy consuming nations to alternative sources of energy, Radio Farda’s Paris-based economic commentator Fereydoun Khavand says.
