TIES: Expediency Council Member Asks Americans to Denounce Bush Policies in Iraq

August 21, 2004 - “Do you approve of the many crimes that your representative (Bush) is committing (in Najaf),” Expediency Council member Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani asked the American people on Friday during a sermon at the official Friday prayer ceremony inTehran University. “If you do approve, his crimes will be counted as your crimes, and would mean that you approve of drinking of the innocent people’s blood from a glass,” the senior Shiite cleric added. He said the American people had better follow the example of Venezuela and hold a referendum on the Bush Administration’s policies in Iraq. Referring to the Imam Ali mosque in Najaf, he said “ill, blind and deaf people are seeking and receiving cure for their ills in the same courtyard that you are targeting with bullets.”
