An Iranian report says the entire arrested members of the Al Qaida terror organization have been tried by the Iranian judiciary and verdicts have been issued The semi-official Fars news agency quoted Tehran Justice Department chief Abbas Ali Alizadeh as saying high-ranking officials were satisfied with the verdicts, which he said were issued in compliance with Islamic law.
Details about the accused, their number or what verdicts were reached and sentences handed out were not available.
In Washington, U.S. State Department Spokesman Adam Ereli said that if Iran is holding senior Al Qaida operatives, Tehran should hand them over to U.S. authorities or to a third country, where they can be dealt with in a "less opaque" manner than Iran has dealt withthem.
