Iran Condemns the Declaration of the 25th Persian Gulf Cooperation Council Summit


Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi strongly condemned the declaration of 25th Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) Summit with regards to the three Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf. The PGCC’s summit ended on Tuesday in Bahrain’s capital,. Manama. In their final declaration the leaders of the summit, once again, repeated their support for the sovereignty of United Arab Emirates over the three islands of Persian Gulf: Abu-Musa and Greater and lesser Tombs. They called the three Islands inseparable parts of the UAE. In addition, the Council’s declaration regretted that its attempts in contacting Iran for its cooperation in this respect remained futile. Asefi called such statements "totally unacceptable." The Foreign Ministry Press and Information Department quoted Asefi as saying "the three islands of the Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Musa are an indispensable and inalienable parts of Iranian territory." Iran’s foreign ministry statement further underlined Iran`s absolute ‘ownership’ of the three Persian Gulf islands.
