Iranian Foreign Minister To Meet EU Leadership
Iran's Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi is due to visit Luxembourg today for talks with the leadership of the European Union. The Luxembourg government, current holder of the EU's rotating presidency, said the talks would focus on the EU's relations with Iran, including the recent negotiations in Geneva on Iran's nuclear program.
Britain, France and Germany have been leading the EU effort to persuade Iran to dismantle its uranium enrichment program in return for economic and political benefits. Iran has agreed to temporarily suspend the program.
But Iran on Sunday rejected an EU offer to end construction of a heavy-water reactor, which can be used to make nuclear weapons material, in exchange for a light-water reactor offered by the Europeans.
