Iranian human rights lawyer, Shirin Ebadi renewed her demand that a jailed dissident be given access to immediate medical treatment outside prison. The ISNA student news agency reported the Nobel Peace Prize laureate called for the Iranian judiciary to secure the temporary release of 48-year-old Akbar Ganji.
Ganji was sentenced in 2000 to six years in prison after he was charged with having "disgraced" Iran by speaking at a controversial conference that year in Berlin.
Ebadi, who today met Ganji in Tehran's Evin Prison, said he was suffering from severe asthma and sharply deteriorating health.
