In an interview with RFE/RL, Mohammad Bagher Batebi talks about Safari’s perseverance in the legal defense of his son, Mohammad, who was arrested after his picture appeared in the London magazine, The Economist holding up the bloody tee-shirt of a fellow student who had been beaten during the 1976 student unrest in Tehran university. Golam-Hussein Salehyar, the prominent pre-revolution newspaper editor tells RFE/RL that Safari was one of the most successful professional journalists in Iran. He adds, Safari supported Iranian oil nationalization in the 1940’s and was active in forming Iran's first journalists union. In the last of his numerous interviews with RFE/RL, Safari talked about his efforts to win the release of Abbas Amir-entezam, IRI’s longest held political prisoner. </TEXT></ENGLISH>
