Iran President in Vienna

Iranian President Mohammad Khatami today reiterated that Iran wants to develop nuclear energy for peaceful means, not bombs. Khatami made his remarks after speaking with Austrian President Heinz Fischer in Vienna. Khatami said he condemns the manufacture and use of nuclear weapons. Khatami's remarks come as Britain, France and Germany are negotiating with Iran to give up its uranium enrichment activities , a process which refines uranium for use as fuel in nuclear reactors or the explosive core of nuclear bombs -- in return for help with developing nuclear energy and economic and security incentives. But Tehran is refusing to abandon uranium enrichment, saying its nuclear activities are only for peaceful purposes. The United States says that Iran is using its nuclear program to covertly develop atomic arms. Khatami is due in France later today for talks with French president Jacques Chirac.
