A militant Arab group in southwest Iran has claimed responsibility for a recent series of pre-election bombings which killed several people and wounded many others. The group called "The Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahvaz" released a video on the internet claiming responsibility for the attacks in Ahvaz and Tehran, in which at last eight people were killed. The group published a separate statement in today's edition of the "Al-Anba" daily newspaper. The statements promise more attacks. Arabs make up about three percent of Iran's estimated population of 69 million. Persians account for about 51 percent. Meanwhile, Iranian officials say tens of thousands of Iranian police and security officers will be on the streets Friday to ensure the country's presidential election runs smoothly.
