Ahmadinejad 'no friend' of democracy said Donald Rumsfeld
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said today said Iranian president-elect Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is "no friend of democracy" and in the long run will prove himself unacceptable to young Iranians and women. Speaking on U.S. television (Fox News Sunday) Rumsfeld dismissed Iran's presidential election Friday as a "mock election," and said it was no surprise a "hard-liner" was elected.
Rumsfeld said Ahmadinejad supports the Islamic clergy "who are telling the people of that country how to live their lives".
Iran's president-elect Mahmood Ahmadinejad said today the Islamic republic "does not really need" to restore relations with the United States, which were cut off a quarter of a century ago.
