NUCLEAR: Iran Capable to Respond to an Israeli Attack, Defense Minister Says
June 30, 2004 - Defense minister rear admiral Ali Shamkhani said Iran is capable to withstand a possible Israeli attack and strike back. “We will not be intimated by Israel’s tactical moves,” he said. “In the past years, the Israelis have shown a hostile attitude towards Iran’s scientific and technological installations, proving that Israel has taken a confrontations stance against Iran’s progress,” he added. “This process has dangerous consequences for the security of the region, because any threat, from within the region or beyond, will be confronted with comprehensive response by all the parties involved.” His comments followed warnings by Israeli intelligence organs that Iran will have nuclear weapons capability by 2007. Israel tested its anti-missile defense system Arrow-2, and head of Israeli army said Israel believes that Iran’s nuclear program must be confronted through diplomatic means.
