<b>Elections Will be Held on Time, President Khatami and Majles Speaker Karrubi Say</b>
• President Khatami and Majles Speaker Mehdi Karrubi said in a letter to the Supreme Leader that the elections will be held on February 20, as scheduled, despite the Guardians Council's refusal to heed the Supreme Leader's order to overturn the bans on hundreds of reformists, including 83 MPs, to stand in the elections. “Despite the Guardians Council's behavior that contravenes the Supreme Leader's advice, the election...will be held on the appointed date,” the two wrote in their letter to the Supreme Leader. The Guardians Council reinstated 200 of a list of 380 disqualified reformists submitted by the intelligence ministry, but announced that it did so only to have followed the Supreme Leader's order. The question in Iran's reformist circles is whether President Khatami would sacrifice the people's right to choose by holding the elections. (Mehdi Khalaji)
• The Guardians Council reinstated 206 of the 1,800 disqualified election candidacy applicants. In a harshly worded statement, the Guardians Council said a few key people who had fomented crisis in the country are still banned from reelection. Meanwhile, the meeting planned for today between President Khatami and the resigning Majles MPs was postponed, according to Shiraz MP Jalil Sazegarnezhad. The reinstated MPs will announce tomorrow their decisions not to run in the elections, he added. Meanwhile, members of the pro-reform society of militant clerics (Majma Rowhaniyoon Mobarez) and the centrist pro-reform party the executives of construction (Kargozaran Sazandegi) announced that they will participate in the February 20 elections. <b>Foreign Minister Asks Lebanon's Help to Find Four Kidnapped Diplomats</b>
• Foreign minister Kamal Kharrazi asked Lebanon to help Iran in the search for four Iranian diplomats kidnapped 22 years ago at a checkpoint controlled by the Christian militia in Beirut. <b>Judiciary Closes Kerman's <i>Hadith</i> Daily Over Coverage of Murders</b>
• Kerman' s local daily <i>Hadith</i> received an order from the culture ministry's domestic press administration to immediately seize operations, as the writers and editors were preparing tomorrow's edition of the paper, the daily's chief editor <b>Mohammad-Sadeq Taheri</b> tells <b>Radio Farda</b>. In its order, the culture ministry cited three complaints against the newspaper filed by three of the six men who have been sentenced to death in preliminary and appeal trials for killing five men and women whom they deemed “corrupt on earth,” in what became known as Karman's serial murders, he adds. <b>Housing Costs Increase by 50 Percent</b>
• Housing costs have increased by 50 percent during the past year, but despite billions of rials being spent on residential development, there is no oversight to ensure compliance with zoning and safety regulations, head of the association of technical construction advisors Mehdi Moazen said. Residential real estate prices have increased by at least 20 percent, Tehran real estate dealer <b>Payam Akbari</b> tells <b>Radio Farda</b>, adding that next year the prices would rise at the same rate. ماه منير رحيمي (راديوفردا): محمد خاتمي، رئيس جمهوري اسلامي و مهدي كروبي، رئيس مجلس شوراي اسلامي در نامه اي به رهبر جمهوري اسلامي شوراي نگهبان را متهم كردند كه به نظر رهبري درباره بررسي مجدد رد صلاحيتها عمل نكرده است.
مهدي خلجي (راديوفردا): وزارت اطلاعات ليستي را به شوراي نگهبان داده بود که بنا به خبرِ خبرگزاري رسمي جمهوري اسلامي، 380 نفر از داوطلبان رد صلاحيت شده نامزدي در انتخابات مجلس را در برميگرفت. شوراي نگهبان از اين ميان تنها حدود 200 نفر را تأييد کرد.
شوراي نگهبان تصريح کرد که اين عده را از نظر قانوني واجد صلاحيت نميداند و تنها به حکم حکومتي رهبر جمهوري اسلامي گردن نهاده است. گرچه هنوز نام اين اشخاص فاش نشده، در محافل خبري گفته ميشود نامزدهاي سرشناس در ميان تأييد صلاحيت شدهها نيستند.
همچنين گفته ميشود صلاحيت شماري از نامزدهاي مجمع روحانيون مبارز، تشکل سياسي زير نظر مهدي کروبي، رئيس مجلس، تأييد شده است. با وجود اين، مهدي کروبي و محمد خاتمي، رئيس جمهوري، ديروز در نامهاي به رهبر جمهوري اسلامي نوشتند شوراي نگهبان براي تجديد نظر در رد صلاحيتها به دستور رهبر عمل نکرده است.
رئيس مجلس و رئيس دولت در نامه خود آورده اند به رغم عدم همکاري شوراي نگهبان و به خاطر حکم حکومتي رهبر جمهوري اسلامي، انتخابات هفتمين دوره مجلس شوراي اسلامي يکم اسفندماه برگزار مي شود.
حکم حکومتي که در اين سالها به ادبيات سران جمهوري اسلامي راه يافته، به معناي دستور رهبري در داوري ميان دو نهاد جمهوري اسلامي است که با هم اختلاف دارند. در اين باره نيز اختلاف ميان شوراي نگهبان است که اعضاي آن منصوب رهبر هستند و مجلس و دولت که با انتخابِ مردم، تعيين ميشوند.
نمايندگان اصلاح طلب مجلس و نيز شماري از اعضاي دولت نه تنها در برابر اقدام شوراي نگهبان اعتراض کردهاند که اکنون آشکارا در برابر حکم حکومتي رهبر جمهوري اسلامي ايستادهاند. استانداران و وزارت کشور که قبلاً اعلام کرده بودند برگزاري انتخابات در يکم اسفندماه ممکن نيست، هنوز براي برگزاري انتخابات اعلام آمادگي نکردهاند.
روزنامه جمهوري اسلامي وابسته به آيت الله خامنه اي، در شماره امروز خود نوشت درصورتيكه مسئولين اجرائي انتخابات مجلس تا امروز آمادگي خود را براي برگزاري انتخابات اعلام نكنند، اقداماتي براي برگزاري انتخابات توسط دستگاه هاي ديگر صورت خواهد گرفت.
در محافل خبري از سپاه پاسداران و شوراي شهر به عنوان نهادهاي نام برده ميشود که آمادگي دارند در صورت سرباز زدن دولت از برگزاري انتخابات، مديريت برگزاري انتخابات را به عهده بگيرند.
محمد خاتمي، همچنان سکوت کرده و از ايستادن و پاسخگفتن در برابر خبرنگاران پرهيز ميکند. آقاي خاتمي با اين نامه خود به رهبري نشان داد که با اقدام شوراي نگهبان در رد صلاحيت بخش عمده اي از نامزدهاي انتخاباتي موافق نيست و آن را خلاف قانون ميداند اما به دستور رهبري گردن مي نهد و اين انتخابات را قانوني ميداند.
در محافل اصلاح طلب در تهران، اکنون اين پرسش جريان دارد که آيا محمد خاتمي، که برگزيده مردم است، حق آزادي انتخاب مردم را در پاي ولايت فقيه قرباني خواهد کرد يا نه.
