Tehran University's political science professor and reformist political commentator Sadeq Zibakalam tells Radio Farda that European countries have a better chance of success in persuading the Islamic regime to sign the additional protocol of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty. (Camellia Entekhabi Fard) Four Majles MPs Protest Arrests of Thousands in a Sit-In • Four reformist Majles MPs staged a 48-hour sit-in at the Majles to protest the widespread arrests of pro-democracy students. Maisam Saidi, Fatemeh Haqiqatju, Reza Yusefian and Ali-Akbar Khoeini urged the judiciary to reveal the whereabouts of thousands of detainees, and asked which organ, how and with what authority has carried out the arrests. Board member of the association of Islamic students council Reza Amerinasab tells Radio Farda that the students consider the MPs' sit-in protest a positive move, and regret that MPs have to resort to such measures in order to defend their constituents. (Amir-Mosaddegh Katouzian) Students Spokesman Says July 9 Rally Will Go On, Despite Government Ban • Member of the association of Islamic student councils Hadi Lotfi tells Radio Farda that no one knows where the arrested students have been taken to and by whom. He estimates that more than 50 Tehran University students have been arrested. He says the association and the Islamic student councils believe that the July 9 demonstrations should go on any way possible. (Amir-Mosaddegh Katouzian) • Government banned the student rally planned for July 9, and announced that on that day, official funerals would be held across Iran for the Iran-Iraq war soldiers whose remains were recently sent to Iran from Iraq, writes the Austrian newspaper Der Standard. (Shahram Mirian, Cologne) • The hunger strike of the members of the Islamic student council of the Isfahan University continued for the seventh day. A striker tells Radio Farda that the number of the strikers grew from 14 on the first to 25. He says Dr.Hamidi has been beaten in jail and has suffered chest bone fractures. Exiled writer and former prisoner and a torture victim Faraj Sarkouhi tells Radio Farda that by torture, the jailer either seeks information from his subject, or wants to break his resolve and destroy his dignity. Forced confessions will remain with the subject as a shameful mark of weakness and may drive him out of political activity. (Fariba Mavedat) Iran Denies Arrest of Ben Laden's Deputy • Foreign ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi said the identity of foreigners detained by Iran have not yet been established, and would not be revealed for security reasons. Jordan's al-Arabia news network had reported that al-Qaeda's number-two man Ayman Alzawahiri has been arrested in Iran, along with other members of al-Qaeda leadership. In the first aired comment, a listener says the student demonstrations spread outside the universities and became political, as people expressed their deep objection to the regime. MKO Sympathizers Protest Paris Arrests with Hunger Strike • Protesting against the arrest of the leaders of the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO), some 170 sympathizers go on hunger strike during a sit-in outside the Paris office of the national resistance council, a political unit of the MKO. (Masoud Malek) Hamedan Appeals Court Approves Jail Sentences for Malyeri Students • An appeals court in Hamedan approved jail sentences for two Malyer University students for their participation in the on-campus student rallies against the death sentence of Hashem Aghajari. (Bijan Farhoodi) Regime's Factions Face-Off on Pro-Democracy Protests • Ayatollah Movahedi Kermani, representative of the Supreme Leader in the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), said in an official Friday prayer speech that insurgents will be dealt a heavy blow. Across Iran, Friday prayer leaders, appointees of the Supreme Leader, told the reformists that instead of such US-inspired issues, such freeing satellite TV viewing and lifting the discriminations against women, they had better think of people's needs. But student activist leader Said Allahbadeshti said the judiciary officials lied openly to the people. Meanwhile, a popular pop singer cancelled his concerts across Iran to show support for the arrested students. (Mina Baharmast) Students' Rights Charter • Prosecutor general Ayatollah Namazi said any demonstration on the July 9, the fourth anniversary of police attack on Tehran University student dorms would be “illegal.” Pro-democracy lawyers suggested drawing up a charter of the rights students and educated people for Majles approval. Tehran-based lawyer Mohammad Hossein Aghasi tells Radio Farda that the rights of students and others have been clearly stated in the constitution and there was no need to draft another document to proclaim these rights. (Fereydoun Zarnegar) Housing to Double in Cost Within a Year, Experts Say • Housing and urban planning experts predict that housing costs, property values and rents, will rise by 100 percent a year, as of the next fiscal year, due to the expected shortages that will result from the overhaul of zoning polices. (Arash Qadival, Tehran) . ليلي صدر(راديو فردا): چهار نماينده مجلس شوراي اسلامي، در رابطه با موج گسترده بازداشتها در پي ناآراميهاي ده روزه كشور، در مجلس شوراي اسلامي دست به تحصن زدند. ميثم سعيدي، فاطمه حقيقت جو، رضا يوسفيان و علي اكبر موسوي خوئيني ها، مي گويند به نحوه گسترده بازداشت دانشجويان در سراسر كشور، اعتراض دارند. آنها مي گويند كه چه دستگاهي دانشجويان را بازداشت كرده، به كجا برده و سرنوشتشان چيست. رضا يوسفيان مي گويد: مسئله استعفا از مقام نمايندگي را با دوستان و همكارانش مورد بررسي قرار داده است. درباره اعتراضي اين چهار نماينده مجلس، رضا عامري نسب، عضو شوراي مركزي دفتر تحكيم وحدت، منتخب علامه، بزرگترين تشكل رسمي دانشجويي ايران، از اين اقدام استقبال كرده، اما درباره نتايج آن ابراز ترديد ميكند. رضا عامري نسب: مطمئنا اين حركت را به عنوان يك حركت اعتراضي همدلانه تصوير مي كنيم و خيلي خوشحاليم كه تعدادي از نمايندگان ما كه قبلا هم به عنوان نمايندگان جنبش دانشجويي، مرسوم به اين عنوان بودند، الان در شرايطي كه آقاي مرتضوي، همين بخش از نمايندگان را به عنوان اقليتي از دانشجويان كه در تحريك دانشجويان نقش داشتند، حتي تهديد كرده كه برخورد مي كند و رسيدگي مي كند به پرونده اين نمايندگان، اما مي بينيد كه نمايندگان خيلي محكم و قاطع ايستادند و هراسي ندارند كه در تهديدات، در كنار دانشجويان قرار بگيرند. خوب تفسير ديگرش اين است كه مجلس آنقدر از قدرت و تواني برخوردار نيست كه از دل حاكميت به مطالبات دانشجويان رسيدگي كند و مي بينيد كه دست به تحصن مي زنند نمايندگان مجلس. اين حركت در هيچ جاي دنيا سابقه نداشته كه نماينده اي آنقدر قدرت نداشته باشد كه از طريق قانوني و از طريق قانون به خواسته هاي موكلين خودش دست پيدا كند و مجبور شود كه در صحن مجلس دست به تحصن بزند و اين حركت از جانب ما كاملا مثبت تلقي مي شود. امير مصدق كاتوزيان(راديو فردا): عليرغم وعده اي كه سعيد مرتضوي، دادستان كل تهران داده، شما فكر مي كنيد كه اين حركت به آن نتيجه اي كه شما مي خواهيد، برسد كه پيگيري وضع دانشجوهاي بازداشت شده است؟ رضا عامري نسب: اگر ما اين صحبتهايي را كه آقاي مرتضوي مطرح مي كنند را بخواهيم جدي بگيريم، شايد به نتيجه اي نرسيم. به نظر من سناريويي كه چيده شده، درش هيچگونه دستكاري صورت نخواهد گرفت. سناريويي كه بخشي از فعالان ملي مذهبي را مثل آقاي عليجاني، آقاي رحماني و آقاي صابر را گرفتند و تلاش مي كنند كه همان تهمت قبلي كه اينها برانداز هستند را به اينها بچسبانند. اينها در آشوبهايي كه اخيرا پيش آمد، دوباره اين پرونده را زنده كردند، و با بحث اين اعتراضات اخير، حالا اينها حلقه هاي مفقود است و سرپلهاي دانشجويي را مي خواهند بين اين جريانات ملي مذهبي و دانشگاه پيدا كنند. كه ما همه ميدانيم اين بحث از اساس منتفي است و يك سناريويي است كه چيده شده و تلاش مي كنند كه مدارك و شواهد برايش پيدا كنند. اگر ما از اين منظر به موضوع نگاه كنيم، طبيعي است كه شايد به اين نتيجه برسيم كه شايد خيلي از اين حركتها، فقط در حد يك حركت اعتراضي باقي خواهد ماند و ثمري نخواهد داشت، جز اينكه فشار ايجاد كند. ولي خوب تنها كاري كه از دست چه نمايندگان، چه دانشجوها بر مي آيد، فعلا همين تحصن و اعتراض و افشاگري حركتهاي مشكوكي كه از طرف دستگاه قضايي دارد انجام مي شود، است. چهار نماينده مجلس شوراي اسلامي، در اعتراض به موج گسترده بازداشت دانشجويان در پي تظاهرات دمكراسي طلبي اخير در سراسر كشور، در مجلس شوراي اسلامي دست به تحصن زدند. ميثم سعيدي، فاطمه حقيقت جو، رضا يوسفيان و علي اكبر خوئيني، مي پرسند چه دستگاهي دانشجويان را به چه طريق بازداشت كرده، به كجا برده و سرنوشتشان چيست. رضا يوسفيان مي گويد: مسئله استعفا از مقام نمايندگي را با دوستان و همكاران مورد بررسي قرار داده است. رضا عامري نسب، عضو شوراي مركزي دفتر تحكيم وحدت، در مصاحبه با راديو فردا مي گويد: اين حركت در هيچ جاي دنيا سابقه نداشته كه نماينده اي آنقدر قدرت نداشته باشد كه از طريق قانوني به خواسته هاي موكلين خودش دست پيدا كند و مجبور شود كه در صحن مجلس دست به تحصن بزند و اين حركت از جانب ما كاملا مثبت تلقي مي شود.
