In its 28th session held last Friday in the Chinese city of Suzhou, the UNESCO added Bam’s ancient citadel to its World Heritage List ‘s endangered sites, because the 2,000-year old citadel and surrounding city suffered serious damage in December 26 earthquake. Assistant UNESCO Director-General for Culture Mounir Bouchenaki said UNESCO’s Director-General Koïchiro Matsuura was committed to continue efforts to salvage Bam.
