The White House said today Iran's incoming president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was a leader of the student movement that orchestrated the capture of the U.S. Embassy 25 years ago. However, White House press secretary Scott McClellan said it still hadn't been determined whether he was actually one of the hostage-takers. Militant students seized the U.S. Embassy in Tehran in 1979, and held the U.S. hostages during 444 days. The White House has been checking on assertions by former hostages that Ahmadinejad was involved in the crisis. A leader of the hostage-takers has rejected the allegations, saying Ahmadinejad was not one of them.
