NUCLEAR: 20 US and European Firms Supplied Iran, N.Korea and Libya in Global Nuclear Black Market: IAEA

July 10, 2004 - “Over 20 countries, some of them in North America” supplied the global nuclear black market, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mohamed ElBaradei said yesterday, responding to questions about the breadth of a year-old investigation. He did not elaborate. A senior diplomat identified one of the firms as US-based, according to an AP dispatch. The unnamed Vienna diplomat quoted by AP said that Syria and Saudi Arabia are also being investigated, but “there has been no proof” on Syria and Saudi Arabia that would warrant them being reported to the board of governors of the IAEA.
