NUCLEAR: European “Stunned” Over Iran’s Demand for Technology Transfer

August 10, 2004 Officials from Britain, France and Germany who last week met with Iranian envoys in Paris in a bid to convince the Islamic government to abide by its commitments to abandon uranium enrichment program were “stunned” to receive a letter in which Iran asked for assistance in developing dual use nuclear technology, according to US officials. The demand, to which Europeans have yet to formulate a response, stalled Paris negotiations. In the letter, the Islamic government asked Europe’s big three to back Iran's insistence that it have access to “advanced [nuclear] technology.”
